Terryland Castle or “Old Castle” was built by the DeBurgo Family to defend the original ford at this location. This ancient castle has seen many rebellions and wars in it’s 500 year history

Menlo Castle

Home to the famous Lord Valentine Blake or ‘Sunday Boy Blake’ as he was known locally. The Georgian mansion was the scene of a dramatic fire in 1910.

Annaghdown Tragedy

Near Menlo Village we pass over the site of the Annaghdown tragedy as immortalised in Anthony Raftery’s Poem Anach Cuan.

Wildlife

Lough Corrib is a Special Area of Conservation, bird sanctuary and Unesco Wetland of International Importance. It is home to Herons, Coots, Cormorants and many Swan Families that we see along the trip as well as the chance to see a jumping wild salmon.

The largest lake in the Republic of Ireland. Calm and crystal clear waters. Connemara mountains are visible to the West.
